Privacy Policy — SBNextGen Parent App

This Privacy Policy describes how the SBNextGen Parent mobile application ("Parent App"), operated by Niko Studio ("we", "us", "our"), collects, uses, and shares information when a parent or guardian uses it to track their child's school bus, report absences, and communicate with their child's school. The Parent App is provided to families by the school their child attends as part of the SBNextGen school transportation platform.

Information We Collect

• Account information: your name and email address, verified by a one-time code when you register, and your password (stored as a hash).
• Child information: your child's name, class, bus route, and pickup/drop-off location, as provided or linked by the school.
• Absence reports you submit when your child will not need the bus on a given day.
• Messages you send to or receive from school staff within the app, including responses to event invitations.
• Daily log information shared by the school about your child (e.g. meals, nap), viewable by you within the app.
• Push notification token: a device identifier used to notify you when the bus is near your child's stop, when your child is picked up or dropped off, or when the school sends a message.
• Language preference and diagnostic error reports if the app crashes or encounters an error.

How We Use Information

We use this information to show you your child's bus location in real time while it is near your child's stop, to notify you of pickups, drop-offs, and delays, to let you report absences and message the school, and to display daily log information the school has recorded for your child.

Who Can See Your Information

Your account and messaging information is visible to the administrators of your child's school. Live bus location is only shown to you in relation to your own child's stop — you cannot see the location or data of other families. We do not sell your data or share it with advertisers.

Third-Party Services

Push notifications are delivered using Expo's push notification service, which receives only your device's push token and notification content.

Children's Information

The Parent App is used by adults (parents/guardians) on behalf of their children. Information about your child (name, class, attendance, and bus activity) is provided by your school for the purpose of operating student transportation and is not collected directly from children through this app.

Data Retention

Messages, absence reports, and attendance history are retained by your school for as long as needed for operational and record-keeping purposes, and are periodically purged by automated cleanup processes. Account information is retained until your account is deactivated.

Data Security

Data is transmitted over encrypted (HTTPS) connections and stored on servers managed on behalf of your school. Access is restricted to authorized school administrators.

Your Rights

You may request access to, correction of, or deletion of your personal data (and, where applicable, your child's data held for transportation purposes) by contacting your school administrator or by emailing us directly at the address below. Deletion requests are subject to any record-keeping obligations your school may have.

Changes to This Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. Material changes will be reflected by updating the effective date above.
